hap·pi·ness

What is happiness?
A brisk walk on a sunny fall day down on Ruston Way.

A cup of coffee in a cozy chair in a cute little coffee shop while snuggled up reading Contagious by Jonah Berger.

7:30pm, with my legs intertwined with Ainsley’s, laying in her loft bed, reading our books before bed.

My fingers woven in Jared’s while driving down the I-5, either in complete silence or while singing Bruno Mars.

The way Bandit’s almost human eyes look at me in love.

Being surrounded by family at one of the many holidays, birthdays, half-birthdays, or made up reasons we create to hang out and debate life.

Pizza. Nachos. Apples and peanut butter. Anything with peanut butter really. Really, just food. Food makes me happy.

But happiness is also…
Knowing my mom died to go home, to join the Lord.

Saying goodbye to my brother, because my brother leaves often, to pursue his dream of becoming a PGA pro.

Sometimes we fight with people, just so we can make up and grow stronger.

Getting put in a role in your career where you don’t know what your purpose is, just so you can explore the gifts you have been given.

Being a Husky fan, no matter what the end of season record is.

Running the bowl at Stadium High on a sunny Saturday morning, even if the outcome isn't favorable to walking for a few days.

Today is International Day of Happiness. A day to collect moments, celebrate smiles, and realize that with every bump in the road, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Will you celebrate happy with me today?

“People tend to think that happiness is a stroke of luck, something that will descend like fine weather if you're fortunate. But happiness is the result of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly.”

- Elizabeth Gilbert, author of "Eat, Pray, Love"
